The colt was imported as a weanling by one of the Winters' clients, as a dressage prospect. He was shown in hand several times as a yearling and two year old, winning most everything he was entered in. Victoria's uncle put a lot of natural horsemanship work into him between shows so he has basically been bomb-proofed. Two weeks before they had planned to start Pet under saddle his owner was killed in a plane crash and her husband sold the entire barn full of horses to the Winters'. Pet had been Victoria's favorite to work with so she took full ownership of the colt and will be starting him under saddle at White Oak. Standing at 17.2 hands, Pet is a bit of a monster, even for a Warmblood. He is expected to gain at least another inch or two in the next couple years as well. It's not really his height that's incredible though; it's his bulk. Pet is nearly twice as wide as most jumpers. His deep black coat can be a bit of a pain to keep dark in the summer months but the jealous looks at shows are worth it, in Victoria's opinion. The colt's personality is rather reminiscent of a cat. Pet likes to be loved on when he wants to be and never otherwise; he comes when called in the pasture while letting you know that it was totally his own idea; if he wants to do something badly enough there is nothing you can do to stop him. mikey is a lady killer?! of caution 2.0 |
