She was dehydrated, starving, and so covered in dirt and burrs that you couldn't even tell what color she was. There was no brand or tattoo to identify her. It took Gideon nearly ten months to turn her into the beautiful, sleek, athletic creature she is now. As soon as she started to gain weight Gideon started messing with her on the ground to see what she knew. The answer; nothing. Her ground manners were basically non-existent. Just for kicks Gideon decided to toss a saddle on her to see what she would do. It was like he had a different horse. Someone had obviously put a lot of time into Dragon's under saddle at some point. She was a little rusty at first but after a couple months of regular work she was practically push button. Her ground manners continued to be absolutely horrible and no amount of work seemed to have any effect on them. Even so, Gideon refused to give her up. They started jumping together, only to find that Dragon had impeccable form over the jumps and was able to clear anything he pointed her at whether under saddle or at liberty. Though whenever they free jumped her she tried to trample whoever was helping Gideon, of course. Sixteen hands of hormonal Warmblood mare is not something a lot of people want to have chasing them down. Needless to say, most people tend to avoid Dragon. Yes, Dragon is very hormonal. For whatever reason drugs and supplements tend to exaggerate her symptoms rather than alleviate them though, so Gideon simply has to take steps to keep her away from other horses. She only gets turned out at odd times of day because she has to go out alone. Her stall is in the far corner of the barn because she kicks the walls and squeals every time another horse goes by. Whether under saddle or on the ground Dragon has to have at least fifteen feet between her and any other horse. One of her most used nicknames is the 'Mare of Mass Destruction'. mikey is a lady killer?! of caution 2.0 |
