He was born in London, England as the second child of an old-money family. His sister is six years older than him. The pair are very close despite their age difference, and Gideon has no secrets from Charlotte Hale. In fact, Charlotte basically raised her brother. Their mother grew very sick when Gideon was only eight and passed away right before he turned thirteen. Their father tried to be there for the siblings but his work took him on business trips far too often. In an effort to make up for it he bought his children anything they wanted and plenty of things they didn't want. Actually, that was how Gideon got into riding; Charlotte was given a pony for her birthday one year and when she showed no interest in it Gideon decided to teach himself how to ride. When he was fourteen his father found out and insisted on paying for lessons with a top of line trainer. Well, after his mother passed away Gideon started acting out. He tried all different kinds of drugs, he vandalized public property, he even started setting fires. Anything to get attention. Anything to get away from the grief. Charlotte tried to help him but she wasn't a whole lot older than he was and there really wasn't much she could do. It was during this period that Gideon's slightly manic girlfriend told him she was pregnant. He was nearly sixteen, she was nearly seventeen. To this day Gideon still has no idea how his father found out, but when he did Christopher Hale lost it. He uprooted his little family from their London home and moved them across the ocean to a little town in Connecticut. He refused to send child support to Gideon's (now ex) girlfriend and wouldn't even consider bringing her and the baby to come live with them. He continued to indulge Gideon in riding lessons but refused him any sort of allowance. Any purchases went through Charlotte. Slowly Gideon started to come to his senses. He took on part time work after school so he could send money overseas to his daughter, Juliet. He started competing at local shows with his rescue horse. Another thing bankrolled by his father. It was Charlotte who found White Oak. She was the one who talked their father into sending Gideon there for his last year of high school and she was the one who helped him apply for a job there when he graduated. Gideon knows that he isn't perfect. Far from it in fact. He does try though. He has a savings account that he puts money into whenever he gets a paycheck so that he can fly Juliet over to live with him eventually. Most of the time Gideon is a pretty easygoing guy. He used to be a huge flirt, and even though he is trying to break himself of the habit he sometimes slips back into his 'player' mode. Gideon is usually pretty reserved with strangers. If you run into him on a good day, at the barn, you might get to see the excited, social kid he used to be. One of the reasons he works at the barn instead of someplace that pays more is his anger management issues. If something pushes him off the deep end Gideon can get violent very quickly. His horse, Dragon, is also his therapist. If he feels himself starting to lose it he will often remove himself to her stall and stay there for hours. Gideon still shows on occasion. But mostly he just rides. As a groom he is occasionally allowed to ride horses owned by the school, or students will sometimes need one of their horses exercised. In exchange for this privilege, and cheaper board, he allows Dragon to be used in lessons for intermediate to advanced students. Gideon has slightly shaggy dark brown hair and beautiful gray-blue eyes.
